LTE CAT-M

Image

A mobile network made for our application. Simply put, LTE CAT-M means a variant of 4G that sits in the same mast and under the same conditions it offers the following advantages compared to 4G -
Longer range and better penetration.
- The network is designed and reserved for IoT (such as alarms) and the network is therefore not busy with other people's "surfing, streaming and speech" when your alarm is due (in a normal network it can be like that).
- Better battery life for the device. With better coverage and penetration as well as shorter and fewer connections, the watch does not need the same amount of energy to communicate. - Higher security. To that we add mutual authentication TLS 1.2 and X.509 client certificates in the communication.

Used for : Communication to and from the backend.
Features : Optimized for data.
Advantages : Very secure communication.
Meaning : Alarms and values always go forward.

Bluetooth

Image
Bluetooth (BLE) is well known and is found in almost all mobile phones, and so also in our Carewatch. The properties give you stable and low-power communication.

We use it for : Communication to and from external sensors and indoor positioning.
Features : Optimized for data.
Advantages : Established technology.
Meaning : Many different sensors can be connected to our watch.

NFC

Image
NFC (Near Field Communication) is a technology for data transmission over short distances that is used, among other things. for credit card payments. We use it for presence marking, identifying and starting medical equipment and transferring digital keys. NFC itself is not the Identification but the way it communicates. What makes NFC suitable for our applications is precisely the short distance. If you think of the example of credit card payments, it is of course that you do not want the payment terminal to be able to reach the credit card that is with the person behind in the checkout line.

We use for : Identification between units such as presence marking and identification of medical equipment.
Properties : Copy protected
Advantages : Secure identification, Established technology.
Meaning : The correct value is registered on the correct individual.

Satellit positionering

Image

There are four global systems for positioning with satellites, GNSS (Global navigation satellite system). GPS is the one that has been carelessly given names to all systems because it was first, but GPS is actually 1 of the 4 systems with global coverage. In addition, there are regional systems.

GPS: American
Glonass: Russian
Galileo: European
Beidou: Chinese

We support positioning GPS and Glonass. When positioning, you can use an "Assisted positioning" function. Even there, GPS in everyday speech has been given a name for the function, A-GPS. However, it can be A-Glonass etc. Assisted positioning means that the device finds the satellites faster on a first search. There are also more ways to shorten the time to a first contact with the satellites.
How good positioning is is controlled by external conditions such as buildings, weather and nature and, in practice, time. For example, the position accuracy of an object that is stationary improves over time. In favorable cases, we can get down to an accuracy of a couple of meters.
As a supplier of hardware/software, you can influence the conditions based on how good the components are. Antenna, energy and type of chip affect. The device's power consumption varies greatly depending on the quality of the chip.

We use for : Positioning, mainly outdoors in the absence of indoor positioning.

Featured support technology in the watch

Function control / Heartbeat

The watch notifies the system that it is in operation at certain intervals. You can set this interval in steps of 5, 15, 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 12 or 24 hours. In the interval of minutes, you have no merit in having flight mode. It delays the alarms and draws more energy with each connection. With an interval of 1 hour, there is a borderline case of no profit, but for 2, 4 and 24 hours you save energy in the clock but at the cost of the alarms being delayed by 25 seconds.

We use it for : That the system can alarm if a clock is not functional or turned off.
Properties :
Advantages : Continuous function control of Carewatch
Meaning : You are notified in the alarm flow if a Carewatch loses contact with the system.

Flight mode

You can have the watch in flight mode, which means that in terms of communication it "sleeps" between the intervals for function checks if no alarm interrupts the sleep. This saves energy as our watches communicate with the mobile network just like a mobile phone. The communication that is crucial for the next reasoning is that the watch tells itself where it is, and has extended authentication in new contact with the back-end. In flight mode, we turn off that communication and when the watch needs to communicate something, it must first start a communication with the back-end. This takes about 25 seconds and thus alarms and other information are delayed by 25 seconds. On the positive side, the watch saves energy when it "sleeps". However, it is an energy saving that is not always positive as the connection itself from flight mode draws more energy than if the watch was "awake". The break point is approximately at the broadcast interval of one hour. The conclusion is that if you expect more than 24 connections to the back-end (alarm+function control+sensor measurements) per day, you should not have flight mode switched on.

We use it for : Energy saving.
Features :
Advantages : Energy saving at longer transmission intervals
Meaning : Fewer charging of the watch

Signal strength

The clock notifies the system of its signal strength (clock to LTE-M base station) at the same interval as function check. It can be used as analysis to understand battery consumption and lost signal in certain areas. If there is no signal, you cannot of course analyze. But if the signal is on the verge of being sufficient in the winter for a place in the forest, it can be assumed that weak signal strength is the reason for the lack of communication in the summer when there are more leaves on the trees.

Do we use for : See reasoning above.

Battery level

The watch notifies the system of its battery level when connected. If the battery level falls below 10%, you will receive an alarm.

We use it for : Warn of low battery level.
